Silver Spring, MD (March 4, 2022) – A fiery explosion in Silver Spring left nearly one dozen people injured on Thursday morning, March 3.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., the firefighters in Montgomery County and the police were requested at the scene of a major incident at a four-story apartment complex located in the 2400 block of Lyttonsville Road. Smoke and fire soon erupted from the structure.

Reports from authorities show that an explosion occurred at the Friendly Garden Apartment complex during the morning hours. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services rushed to the scene and secured the area. Crews immediately set up fencing around the structure as crews worked to control the blaze.

Firefighters pulled multiple people from the structure. It soon became fully engulfed in flames, resulting in its collapse.

Ten people in total were injured. Several EMS units with MCFRS rushed to treat victims. At least three of the ten injured were hospitalized with potentially life-threatening injuries.

All forty apartment units in the three-building complex were deemed to be unsafe to occupy. More than 100 residents were displaced from the incident.

The police department is investigating at this time to determine the cause of the explosion.
