Baltimore, MD – Fire on South Stricker St Takes Three Firefighters’ Lives, Injures One By Lonnie Greenblatt on January 26, 2022

Baltimore, MD (January 26, 2022) – At 6 a.m., on January 24, several firefighters with the Baltimore Fire Department responded to battle a structure fire on South Stricker Street.

According to reports from the BFD Fire Chief, a massive fire broke out inside a vacant structure in the 200 block of South Stricker Street. Firefighters went to the site of the fire and attempted to extinguish the blaze, which overtook all three floors of the row home.

Firefighters entered the building in order to take control of the fire when part of the roof collapsed and trapped four firefighters inside.

An emergency rescue squad rushed to the fire in an attempt to remove the trapped victims. Three firefighters were pulled from the structure and transported to Shock Trauma. A fourth victim was subsequently rescued from the home.

At 11:45 a.m., the entire roof collapsed.

Three of the victims succumbed to their injuries. The fourth victim was admitted with critical injuries but awoke after several hours and was upgraded to fair condition.

At this time, the fire department is investigating the fire.

We would like to offer our warmest condolences to the families of all three victims who have lost their lives in this fire. Our thoughts are with the fourth victim in hopes of a full recovery.
