$125,000 Settlement for Dog Attack

Greenblatt & Veliev, LLC, obtained a settlement of $125,000 for a client who was injured during a dog attack. Our client was chased by a rottweiler in Prince George’s County, Maryland. As a result of the dog attack, our client suffered injuries to his knee.

The dog owner’s insurance company initially denied liability and then made a minimal settlement offer of $5,500. The settlement offer was surprisingly low, even though insurance companies usually make lowball offers at the beginning of most personal injury cases.

However, once the lawsuit was filed and litigation began, subpoenas and deposition testimony revealed that several prior complaints had been made to Animal Control about the same dog. Greenblatt & Veliev was able to prove that the owner knew about his dog’s propensity to cause harm, and our client’s injuries could have been foreseen and prevented.

With this evidence that the dog owner knew that his animal was a dangerous dog, his home owner’s insurance company finally settled with our client one month before trial for $125,000 – an amount 25 times greater than the original settlement offer.
