Leonardtown, MD – Pedestrian Struck & Killed by Vehicle on Route 5 near Cedar Lane Rd
Leonardtown, MD (August 1, 2022) – A man from Leonardtown has lost his life due to a pedestrian accident that occurred in St. Mary’s County on Friday afternoon. At 3:18 p.m., on July 29, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was notified that a collision occurred on Route five.
Preliminary reports provided by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit show that a 2018 Dodge journey, operated by a 31-year-old woman from Mechanicsville, was traveling on Point Lookout Road during the afternoon hours. As her vehicle passed near the intersection of Route 5, she struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway.
The pedestrian, a 42-year-old male, was injured due to the crash. The pedestrian was rushed by ambulance to an area hospital. He was declared deceased a short time after arriving.
The female driver of the Dodge was not injured in the crash.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the accident at this time.
