According to a report by Maryland’s Motor Vehicle Administration, people who drive without regard to the rules or safety of others are more likely to get into collisions in certain parts of the year and at certain times of the day. Additionally, the severity of such accidents is also likely to vary depending on the period of time.

The MVA report found that Marylanders can expect the lowest number of aggressive car collisions in the beginning months of the year. Car crashes would rise at a slow rate beginning in March and progressing into June. However, the peak number of aggressive driving accidents would occur in the last three months of the year, from October to December.

Still, just because the most number of crashes occur in the winter months does not mean that the deadliest crashes happen during that time of the year. In fact, the report discovered that a number of the most severe collisions that resulted in fatalities were most likely to happen in June, August and the month of October.

Aggressive driving collisions also will rise and wane depending on the time of the week. About 50 percent of these kinds of accidents were found to happen between Wednesday and Friday. Overall, the number of auto collisions goes up as the work week comes to an end and then declines over the course of the weekend. But even as the number of crashes goes down on the weekend, the deadliness of the accidents tends to increase.

Maryland drivers should also know that aggressive driving collisions are more likely to occur later in the day. The MVA report found that the highest number of aggressive driving crashes would happen between the hours of two to seven p.m. Basically, from about mid-afternoon to early evening is when Maryland roads are most likely to see trouble from unsafe driving practices.
