With spring quickly approaching, more and more motorcycles will be out on our nation’s roadways. Extra care must be taken by drivers in order to make sure they see these two-wheeled motor vehicles. In Gambrills recently, a 21-year-old Marine was killed while he was out riding his Yamaha motorcycle.

Active Duty Marine Killed In Motorcycle Accident

According to police, the man was riding his motorcycle on Patuxent Road around 3:37 p.m. A BMW sedan was headed southbound on Patuxent Road when the driver lost control and struck the motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle was an active duty Marine at Fort Meade and was originally from Peoria Heights, Illinois.

The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and declared dead at the accident scene.

Police said that the driver of the BMW, a 28-year-old man, fled the accident scene, but was located later hiding in a nearby quarry. There was also a passenger in the BMW, a 22-year-old, who suffered minor injuries. The BMW driver was not hurt.

Currently, the accident is under investigation by the Traffic Safety Division of the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Charges against the BMW driver are currently pending review by the State Attorney’s Office. It was not reported if alcohol played a role in the crash.
